The Clay Cliffs are located 20 minutes from Omarama or 35 minutes south of Twizel. You can easily stop here for 1 hour while passing through on the New Zealand State Highway 8. This could be either heading north into the Mount Cook National Park or south into Queenstown.

The Omarama Clay Cliffs are located only 10km (6.2 miles) from the town of Omarama on South Highway 8. The turnoff to the Omarama Clay Cliffs is just north of Omarama (heading towards Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook National Park) and is called Quailburn Road.
